Doonagore Castle above Doolin, County Clare, with the bay beyond

Up the Clare coast to Doolin

Not everything we ride is Cork and Kerry. This one was five of us — Dave Keating, Fergus Thompson, James Browne, Ross Long and myself — after a great bike trip up the Clare coast and a bit of grub in Doolin.

Clare rewards the detour: the round tower of Doonagore Castle above Doolin pier, the Cliffs of Moher under a moody sky, and the Poulnabrone dolmen out on the bare limestone of the Burren. Doolin Motorcycle Fest weekend makes a cracking excuse, if you need one.

"Brilliant weekend as always," as Dave put it. Hard to argue.
