George Thompson, founder of Wild Atlantic Biker

Three decades in the saddle and the paddock — now sharing Ireland's west coast with riders from around the world.

  • Motorcycle photojournalist & PR (MotoGP, British Superbikes)
  • Irish short-circuit & road-race championships
  • Hillclimb Clerk of the Course
  • Tourism transport across Ireland

I spent more than 30 years involved in motorcycle racing in numerous roles but mainly as a photojournalist and PR specialist, working with riders and teams in MotoGP and British Superbikes as well as the Irish short circuit and road race championships. In recent years I officiated at Hillclimbs as Clerk of the Course before retiring from all race activities at the end of 2019.

Being a biker and a writer, I wanted to keep my hand in, so I started a travel blog on my journeys by motorcycle around Ireland in 2020 — and it was from this new direction that I created Wild Atlantic Biker.

Tourism is another part of my career, having transported visitors of many nationalities around the Emerald Isle. That experience, together with Wild Atlantic Biker, is the perfect fit for guiding and advising on motorcycle tours along some of the world's most scenic routes.

George rides with fellow guide Ross Long, who co-leads tours along the Cork and Kerry coast.

The experience during a motorcycle trip is as exciting as the destination itself — the journey becomes a destination on the move. What motorcycle tourists care about most are the natural environment and the local culture, and that's exactly the memorable experience Wild Atlantic Biker sets out to create.
